Full Translation vs Extract Translation
Not sure which translation service you need? Here’s how they differ and how to choose the right one for your submission.
When you order a certified translation, you can choose between a Full Translation and an Extract Translation. Both are translations of your original document, but they differ in how much of the document is translated.
Full Translation
A Full Translation is a complete, word-for-word translation of your document. Every detail is included, including stamps, seals, signatures, handwritten notes and fine print. Choose this option when the receiving authority needs to see the entire document in translation.
Extract Translation
An Extract Translation (sometimes called a template translation) captures only the essential information from your document, such as names, dates of birth, places and ID numbers. Non-essential content, like administrative stamps and fine print, is left out. Because less content is translated, an Extract Translation is usually faster and more affordable.
Which one do I need?
Requirements vary between authorities, organisations and even individual application types, so we can’t tell you which version will be accepted. Before you submit your document for translation, please check with the authority you’re submitting your document to, or review the form or checklist you’ve been given. Confirming this first helps you avoid delays caused by submitting the wrong version.
Still unsure?
If the requirements aren’t clear, contact the receiving authority directly. If they don’t specify, a Full Translation is the safer choice, as it includes all the information on your document.
